- Goa varsity adopts five villages under central scheme
- Goa University (GU) has set up a directorate of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) on campus, and the varsity under the central government scheme has adopted the five villages of Nauxi-Pirabhat, Cacra, Siridao-Palem, Marcaim and Gudi-Paroda. The villages are mix of those located in the campus neighbourhood and in other parts of the state.
- Under UBA of the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry, institutes of higher education through their faculty and students, carry out studies of living conditions in the adopted villages and assess the local problems and needs. Based on the study, solutions to issues related to health, cleanliness, waste management, plantation, financial inclusion, women and child development are worked out by leveraging technological interventions. The institutes also help improve the implementation of various government schemes.
