  • Crop yield in Bicholim expected to see 20% drop

  • Due to long dry spell, paddy crop in Bicholim taluka fields took a hit as it was in the grain-filling stage and with this, the output is expected to see a drop of at least 20 per cent.

  • Although there was copious rainfall during initial stages of cultivation, transplantation, the dry spell that followed thereafter affected the growth of the crop.

  • There have been intermittent showers in the last few days, however, it is not going to help the crop much, feel the farmers.

  • The kharif paddy crop, locally known as ‘bharad’, is fully dependent on rainfall. If it rains regularly from stages of crop cultivation to maturity, the farmers get a good yield.
